Which Church Should I Attend?

Edgar Cayce, while in trance, was asked variations of this same question on several occasions.

(Q) Is there any entity, group or activity with whom I should be associated in rendering the greatest possible service in this experience? If so, please indicate the field of activity and section of the country where this relationship should be developed.

(A) As indicated, first know thyself. Any group, any activity that answers closest to that which cries out from within, THAT associate yourself with. Not as a schism, not as a cult, not as an ism; but He is ONE God, and thus He is no respecter of persons [2787-1].

If a religion is important and is beneficial to you, then you should choose the one that you feel most comfortable attending and associating with its members. Search within, ask God, and if what you hear and feel fits closest to what you know from within, then that is the one that would be best suited for you. Remember, what feels right for one person is not right for all. Each person must decide for themselves. Diversity is the spice of life.

On another occasion a Cayce reading drew a comparison between the many religions of the world and the diverse varities of trees. The reading explained that as each individual's journey is unique, there are religions that will fit some and others that will fit others. They all have a purpose to fill.

As He has given, it will ever be found that Truth-whether in this or that schism or ism or cult-is of the One source. Are there not trees of oak, of ash, of pine? There are the needs of these for meeting this or that experience. Hast thou chosen any one of these to be the ALL in thine usages in thine own life? Then, all will fill their place. Find not fault with ANY, but rather show forth as to just how good a pine, or ash, or oak, or VINE, thou art! [254-87].

We can see that it doesn't matter as much as to which church you attend as it does for living the principles of the religion and shining forth those principles as a light on a hill.

Similarly, he was asked which version of the Bible would be the best to read. The answer that came back was on similar lines.

(Q) What present printed version of the Bible gives the nearest to the true meaning of both old and new Testaments?

(A) The nearest true version for the entity is that ye apply of whatever version ye read, in your life. It isn't that ye learn from anyone. Ye only may have the direction. The learning, the teaching is within self. For where hath He promised to meet thee? Within that temple! Where is that temple? Within! Where is heaven or earth? Within! Meet thy Savior there. For He hath promised, "I stand at the door-open. If ye open, I will enter and sup with thee." Again, "If ye will open I will come in-and I and the Father will abide with thee."

There have been many versions of that which was purposed to have been written, and has changed from all those versions-but remember that the whole gospel of Jesus Christ is, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy mind, thy heart and thy body; and thy neighbour as thyself." Do this and thou shalt have eternal life. The rest of the book is trying to describe that. It is the same in any language, in any version [2072-14].

As in the quotes above, it matters less about the differences. What is most important is living it. All religions and all holy scripture focus on loving thy God and they neighbor. If we can truely do this without condemnation of our neighbor or his beliefs, then we will have made great strides in living the gospel of God.

So pick a church that you feel comfortable attending, that has a warmth of brotherhood and love. Then live the teachings of love. This all of which God asks.
