How Can We Find God?

The question of how to find God does not have a definate
answer. There are many ways to find God. There isn't an all encompasing
formula that if followed would lead you to God. I believe just as there
are many religions to meet the diverse needs of the people, all of which
are viable in helping man, there are many ways to meet God. It is up to
the individual to find the way that is best for them. The Cayce readings
mention often that is up to the individual to decide and then stick with
that decision, working with it constantly.
The Cayce source, however, does not leave us without any
guidence in finding God. It does lay out a framework that will help us
in our quest.
One thing the readings almost constantly hits upon is
becoming one with God as it states in the Gospel of John, to be one with
the Father as the Son is. We must understand the attributes of the Father
and incorporate those attributes into our own lives. Once we do this we
can feel the God within.
For, those that would find God must believe that He is,
and in the daily walks of life give expressions of that which is an attribute
that self would attribute to the Father. And thus may the soul become in
patience, in hope, in faith, in love, aware of the Father's indwelling
within it [505-4].
The readings also tell us that through prayer and meditation
we will become attuned to the God Consciousness. There have been several
readings that deal with just prayer and meditation and Appendix I of "A
Search For God" deals with the topic of prayer and meditation. The
differences between prayer and meditation is outlined in many readings,
as well as in A Search For God.
Prayer is the concerted effort of our physcial consciousness
to become attuned to the consciousness of the Creator, either collectively
or individually! MEDITATION is EMPTYING self of all that hinders the creative
forces from rising along the natural channels of the physical man to be
disseminated through those centers and sources that create the activities
of the physical, the mental, the sprititual man; properly done must make
one STRONGER mentally, physically... As we give out so does the WHOLE of
man - physically and mentally become depleted, yet in entering into the
silence, entering into the silence in meditation, with a clean hand, a
clean body, a clean mind, we may receive that strength and power that fits
each individual, each soul, for a greater activity in this material world
[281-13] (see also A Search For God, p. 174, 175).
Prayer - He knoweth what ye have need of, but it is that
love, that hope within self, knowing, feeling the desire to approach, thankful,
prayerful, and then listen for direction [ 1861-19].
The listening is meditation as the following states from
a reading:
"Prayer is supplication to God and meditation is
listening to His answer" [2946-6].
How do we prepare ourselves for attunment with God in
prayer and meditation? The following reading gives us some guidelines:
Then, purify thy mind if ye would meditate. How? Depending
on what is thy concept of purification! Does it mean to thee a mixing up
with a lot of other things, or a setting aside of self, a washing with
water, a cleansing or purifying by fire or what not? Whatever thy concept
is, be TRUE to thine inner self. LIVE that choice ye make, - DO IT! not
merely say it but DO IT! Purify thy body. Shut thyself away from the cares
of the world. Think on that as ye would do to have thy God meet thee face
to face. "Ah," ye say "but many are not able to speak to
God!" Many, you say, are fearful. Why? Have ye gone so far astray
that ye cannot approach Him who is all merciful? He knows thy desires and
thy needs, and can only supply according to the purposes that ye would
perform within thine own self. Then, purify thy body, physically. Sanctify
thy body, as the laws were given of old, for tomorrow the Lord would speak
with thee - as a father speaketh to his children. Has God changed? Have
ye wandered so far away? Know ye not that, as He has given, "If ye
will be my children, I will be thy God"? and "Though ye wander
far away, if ye will but call I will hear"? [281-41].
Now as to where you will find God. It will be in the temple.
What temple? The temple of thy body. The Bible and the readings make it
clear that the body is indeed the temple of God and it is there that we
will meet God.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the
Spirit of God dwelleth in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16).
The Cayce reading confirm that we are the temples of God.
(Q) Do I hold my healing meditations correctly?
(A) Who should judge as to whether one or another holds correctly? Does
there come that answer within that thy meditation, thy prayer, is raising
within thee that answer as thou would have go to those whom thou wouldst
help? Then know that these are correct, when that answer comes. If these
do not always answer, meet thy Lord within. Let Him, in the still, small
voice from within, guide thee. For, He is not far from thee. Thou only
needest to open the door of thy consciousness, that He may enter in [281-23].
This is only one of many readings that state that we will
meet God within and that He will guide us through the "still, small
voice" that is also mentioned in the Bible.
One must face self, as Cayce always said, and look deeply
at ouselves and decide what must be done. Only the individual has the answers
for himself.
Know, as has been indicated, all of the world (as ever
has been, as ever will be) is represented in thee, thine own self. Look
within. There ye will find the answer to every problem. Ye cannot ask a
question that ye cannot answer within thine own self, if or when ye attune
thyself to the infinite. Thy soul is eternal, thy soul-mind is eternal.
Will ye as a child of the Most High listen to the voice within? For He
has promised to meet thee within thyself if and when you attune to that.
How? By the manner in which ye treat thy wife, the manner in which ye treat
thy friend, the manner in which ye treat thy enemy. For the Lord, thy God
is not mocked and thy troubles arise within thyself. Attune thyself to
the God within. Begin with that which is best expressed in Deuteronomy
30 and in Exodus 19:5. There you may begin and you will find the answer
if you will make of thyself not a slave, no, but one in accord with His
will. For the knowledge of God, the Father is that which indeed sets thee
free [4083-1].
